About Stitch
Stitch, officially opened its doors in the leafy suburb of Willoughby on the lower north shore of Sydney in June 2017.
Stitch is an embroidery shop with a focus on a great selection of quality stock from all over the globe delivered with a modern and contemporary feel. Our store is packed with beautiful items and you can browse while searching for your next project, or book in for a class or chat.
Although new in name and location, the origins of Stitch have a long history.
Known previously as Mosman Needlecraft, the original business was established back in 1977 by a group of friends and has been owned by several people along its 40-year journey. Tessa Chaplin, the creator of "Stitch", and a passionate embroiderer, purchased the business after working in it for 2 years.
"With Stitch, I wanted to choose a name that was modern and accessible but clearly explained what we are all about. We Stitch, we go to Stitch, we learn a Stitch, we master a Stitch, we drop a Stitch, we Stitch & Chat, sometimes we chat more than we stitch and I have made many lovely friends through a Stitch and would have it no other way”
The current owner of Stitch, Carolyn Stanton, worked for Tessa at Stitch since its inception in 2017. With Tessa's relocation back to South Australia in December 2024, it created the perfect opportunity for a new owner with significant history & ties to the business to continue it's operation.
"I couldn't think of a better way to continue the heritage of this lovely shop! I feel that I've created a win win situation for all our customers who so love to spend time with us here at Stitch."
