'Indigo Fragments on my Mind' Crewel Embroidery Class (deposit)

"I’ve used my favourite stitches in this piece, ones that achieve the textures of the patterns on the items that I’ve drawn inspiration from. I’ve used a limited colour palette of just a few different indigo tones in order to focus on the texture of the stitches used in the piece as well as the different fibres which include wool and silk threads.

My inspiration was drawn from the everyday household china plates, dishes & cups in my kitchen. Things that I look at every day and think, ‘these would translate into a beautiful embroidery design’. I seem to always keep the same colour scheme at home, blue & white. So the items I’ve used for reference are Spode ‘Blue Italian’, Johnson Brothers ‘Willow Pattern’, Johnson Brothers ‘Indes’ designs, plus some random blue/white teacups that I have with Japanese inspired patterns. I’ve taken segments or fragments of all of these to translate into an embroidery design framed within the silhouette of a woman’s face. I wanted to create something that takes inspiration from everyday items and makes a beautiful piece of stitching art."
