Mary Anne March

New from Nashville Needlework Market 2020, this design is from Kathy Barrick: 'Mary Anne March'.

This sampler is an original design from Kathy Barrick, "I've been wanting to do a simple marking sampler for a while and wanted to use the most aged colour i could find to stitch it. And, I envisioned a finish of this type... not a framed piece, but one made into a sort of mat to be layed flat or rolled." - Kathy Barrick, designer

A marking sampler is a small piece of cloth with the alphabet, numbers (up to ten) and possibly the name of the girl who made the sampler. The alphabet and ciphers were regarded as enough for a person to show that she would be able to mark an object (such as a garment) with a name and number, even if she was semi-literate.
